VoidRift
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The things new pilots ask most often, answered plainly.

About the game

Is VoidRift free to play?
Yes. You can create an account and play the whole game without paying. There are optional paid supporter packs that add convenience and cosmetic items, but nothing behind them is required to compete.
Do I need to download anything?
No. VoidRift runs in a browser tab on desktop and mobile. There is an optional desktop Companion app and an Android app, but both are conveniences — the browser version is the full game.
What kind of game is VoidRift?
It is a persistent multiplayer space game. You fly a ship between stations, trade and smuggle cargo, fight or avoid other pilots, and build up a syndicate. It is closer to a space trading and strategy game than an action game.
Does the game keep running when I log off?
Yes. Flights, repairs, cooldowns and the economy all run on real time whether or not you are online. That means you can play in short check-ins rather than long sessions.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. The browser version works on mobile, and there is an Android app that loads the same game with your same account. Progress is stored on the server, so you can switch between devices freely.
Is there player-versus-player combat?
Yes. You can scout and attack other pilots, place bounties on rivals, and duel in the Arena. Combat is committed rather than real-time — you decide whether to take a fight based on what scouting shows you.
What is a syndicate?
A syndicate is the group layer of the game. Members share a vault with per-member balances, take on roles, and run crew jobs that need more than one pilot. Syndicates also compete with each other over standing and territory.
How long does it take to get started?
The guided tutorial takes well under an hour and leaves you with a working ship and enough money to start trading. Most new pilots run cargo for their first few sessions before specialising.
Do I need to spend money to be competitive?
No. Paid options exist for supporters and are listed openly on the pricing page, but the competitive systems do not require them.
Where can I look up ship and item stats?
The wiki carries stats for every ship, item, upgrade and outpost in the game, and you do not need an account to read it.

Still stuck?

The beginner's guide covers your first hour in more depth, and the wiki has the reference data. There is also an in-game forum and a Discord where pilots answer questions.
